The Dippoldiswalde Heide

Discover Nature!

The forest Dippoldiswalde Heide, north of town, offers many interesting historical, geological, geographical and other treasures. A walk through this area is always worth it!
The entire Dippoldiswalde Heide (12 km²) used to be the most northern part of the Dippoldicz-forest, which belonged to the owners of the Riesenburg by Osseg. A descendent of the Dippoldicz clan, Bishop Adalbert of Prag, is said to have prepared for his travels to the unreligious north by becoming a hermit in the Dippoldiswalde Heide. After his heath, the Pope is said to have declared him a Saint. The “Holy Dippold” was included in our town coat of arms for that reason.
